Privacy policy
Virtual Try-On Abakira adds a “Try it on” button to a merchant’s product pages. A shopper can upload a photo of themselves and see an AI-generated preview of the product on them.
Shopper photos
- The shopper must tick a consent box before the photo can be sent. The box states that the photo is of them, that they are at least 18, and that the photo is sent to our image provider to create the preview and deleted right after.
- The photo is reduced in the shopper’s browser, sent to our server, and passed to Google (Gemini API) together with the product image. It is held in memory only for the duration of that single request.
- We delete the photo immediately after the preview is generated. We never write it to a database, a file or a log, and we never store the generated image. The preview is sent back to the shopper’s browser and disappears when they close the window.
- We ask Google not to store the request (
store: false). Google processes it as our service provider under the Gemini API terms for paid services. Generated images carry Google’s SynthID watermark, which marks them as AI-generated. - We do not use photos to identify anyone, to train models, or for any other purpose.
What else we store
- About the merchant: the shop domain and Shopify shop identifier, the shop owner contact email and the language of the Shopify admin, the plan and the monthly spending limit. The contact email is not a marketing opt-in.
- About each try-on: the date, the product identifier, whether it succeeded, its cost and whether it was reported to Shopify billing. No photo, no image, no shopper name, email, address or customer ID.
- Daily limit per shopper: to stop one visitor from using up the merchant’s budget, we keep a counter per day under a one-way key computed from the shop, the date and the visitor’s IP address. The IP address itself is never stored, the key changes every day so a visitor cannot be followed from one day to the next, and counters are deleted after two days.
What we access in Shopify, and why
- Products (read only): to fetch the image of the product being tried on, its title, and its tags (a product tagged
no-try-onis refused).
Who else sees this data
- Google (Google LLC, United States): generates the preview from the shopper photo and the product image, as described above.
- Vercel runs the app and Neon stores the data listed above. Neither receives a photo at rest.
- Crisp (Crisp IM SAS, Nantes, France) powers the support chat in the merchant admin only. It never loads on a storefront and never sees shopper data.
- Shopify receives one usage event per successful try-on on paid plans, so that it can bill the merchant. The event carries no shopper data.
Deletion
Shopper photos and previews are never kept, so there is nothing to delete later. When a merchant uninstalls the app, we clear the contact email and admin language at once. Shopify sends a shop redaction request 48 hours later and we delete every record we hold for that shop. Merchants can ask us to delete their data at any time.
Our agreement with merchants
We act as a data processor on behalf of the merchant, who remains the controller of their store’s data. We process only the data listed above, only for the purposes listed above, and only for as long as stated above.
